Home Learning Cl3

The children in Class 3 have been given a set of spellings to learn over Christmas. There will not be a test next week. The children do not have any Math related worksheets to complete, however I would still like them to practise their mental maths next week and over Christmas. The children do not need to complete an AF comment next week.

A new Maths worksheet will be given out on Friday 8th January, 2016. AF comments will be due on Friday 8th January, 2016.

If the children would like to do some writing over Christmas, they can keep a diary. This is not compulsory.

Y6 Winter Poetry

Over the course of the past two weeks, children in class 4 have been exploring poetry by John Agard and Ted Hughes. We have been focusing specifically on poetic voice- the meaning behind the poetry- as well as exploring the language used and its impact upon the reader. Yesterday the children create their own poems in the style of Ted Hughes. The theme was winter and the contrast between warm and cold.

Below are some examples of the work created by the children:

KS 2 Team Dodge Ball Competition

The Meadows Intra-School Dodge Ball Competition

On Wednesday 9th December 2015, pupils in the Meadows Key Stage 2 classes took part in an intra-school dodge ball competition.

Mrs Kuffour and Mr Skellern were watching all the matches to make sure everyone was being honest when a ball hit them. This made the game a lot easier because everybody was obeying the rules of this sport.

Biscuits in Reception

We had a fantastic day in reception on Friday. The children loved rolling biscuit dough and cutting out Christmas shapes. They were excellent at decorating their biscuits using piping icing. It looked like it had been snowing in the classroom as there was flour and icing sugar everywhere! Thank you to all of the parents who came to our open afternoon. For those parents who were unable to make it, please enjoy looking at our photographs.

Railway Children Charity

As part of our work with the Railway Children charity, we have been thinking about what we would like to be when we grow up. We discussed different occupations, watched a video about a boy who dreamed about working with animals and tried on outfits. Please enjoy looking at our photographs. We look forward to seeing what the children come dressed as on Friday.

E-Safety Assemblies

Over the past half term, the children in KS2 have been focusing on the importance of being safe online. Despite the age limit for many social media websites being 13, the children were very open about the fact that they have used social networking websites. Due to this, we have spent a great deal of time discussing the dangers of using them, as well as what is needed in order to be safe online. The children were extremely engaged in these discussions and gave very mature responses.
