A Midsummers Night's Dream - Class 4

During the course of the past two weeks, Class 4 have been exploring 'A Midsummers Night's Dream' by William Shakespeare in English and Guided Reading. So far we have looked in detail at the first two acts of the text, exploring the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary in context, summarising events that have occurred and inferring meaning about how the characters are feeling.

Today we have put all of our learning into practice by performing the argument between Titania and Oberon in Act 2. The children had to ensure that their actions, facial gestures and voices reflected how the character was feeling. They also had to learn to use the space wisely in order to reflect how the characters feel about each other.

Here are some photographs of the children in action:

"I think that this is a really funny play that tells a good story at the same time. The comedy comes from the confusion of the characters and how the get in a muddle but still manages to make the story interesting and adventurous." Amy

"I am extremely fond of 'A Midsummers Night's Dream' due to the fact that the characters' emotions change regularly and it is funny." Joe

"Today it was good to perform a different gender of character (I played Titania) as in those days men would have played the female parts in the theater." Alistair

"I think the play so far is really funny and the characters have lots of different emotions which makes the text detailed and interesting." Lottie

"I think performing today was a really good idea as all of the people I performed with acted well and worked well together." Dan

"This text has inspired me quite a lot. It is a very funny text and has helped children of our age to understand the meaning of words in different contexts." Molly

Well done children. I am so impressed with your enthusiasm and love of this text.
