Elf Challenges in Class 4

Every day Jeff, our mischievous Christmas elf, is setting us learning challenges to complete for a reward. Yesterday we could not find Jeff anywhere: he had gone missing during the weekend and set us with the task of finding him. Before we were able to do that, we had to complete our learning challenge; the pupils who completed their challenge first were given the task of going on an elf hunt.

Our challenge was based on solving problems involving adding decimals. Logan, Immy and Dan finished first therefore they were given the task of hunting around the school for Jeff.

First they read the clues out to the class so that we could solve them together:

They managed to find Jeff hiding behind the owl cushions on the sofa near the school reception (near Mrs Copper's office).

Today Jeff set the children an English challenge -to write a poem in ten minutes, using figurative language, to describe him.  It could be any type of poem for example a shape poem, a narrative poem, a metaphor poem etc.

There were some amazing entries but the winners were: Gracie, Daniel, Amy and Immy. Here is what they wrote:

As slick as a fox,

He arrived in a box,

Sneaking around,

Without making a sound.

Silently he creeps,

Doing naughty tricks.

Stripy red tights,

Shoes on tight,

A golden bauble on the tip of his hat.

Jeff is a wonderful elf,

Eventhough he sits on a shelf.

Jeff is the best of his kind,

He is cheerful and happy combined.

He's the world's most happiest elf,

And I wish you could see it for yourself.

He gives us lots of candy canes,

Eventhough he will claim.

Jeff is an amazing elf.

I wish you could see it for yourself!

Jeff, (who is oh so sweet),

Gives us a challenges that prizes a sweet.

Green and red suit,

With black boots.

He's wise as an owl,

Hear the winter winds howl.

He moves around the classroom,

Thanks for coming dear Jeff.

Jeff the Elf,

As cheeky as can be,

But excitable and lively

For everone to see!

He hides in the corners,

Upon the highest shelf,

But darts without being seen,

He really has his stealth!

And once on Christmas Eve,

To Santa he grieved,

"Santa, oh Santa. I'm lonely,

Can I live with children like these?"

Santa nodded and helped,

And into the box he crept.

But he needed to test their intelligence,

And so a puzzle with him was swept.

Santa brought his sleigh,

And dropped the box from the sky.

It thumped Mrs Copper on the head,

Who was only walking by!

He came out of the box,

And the puzzle was solved.

Jeff the elf,

And the story he told.
